Our Seminar Moderator will be
Professor Ronald J. Mann
University of Texas School of Law
The moderator for our Seminar will be Professor Ronald J. Mann, a nationally recognized scholar and teacher in the fields of commercial law, payment systems and electronic commerce, and regarding the many bankruptcy issues implicated in these areas. Professor Mann is a co-author of the first American casebook in electronic commerce, and also has published two widely-used commercial law casebooks and a book concerning the global credit card industry. Additionally, he has delivered numerous papers and published in leading law journals in the United States, Israel, and Japan, and recently served as the Reporter for Articles 3 and 4 of the Uniform Commercial Code.
Professor Mann graduated first in his class from the University of Texas School of Law. He clerked for Judge Sneed on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and then for Justice Lewis Powell, Jr. of the U.S. Supreme Court. After three years in private practice, he served as an Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States and argued several key bankruptcy cases before the Supreme Court, including BFP v. Resolution Trust Corporation and Dewsnup v. Timm. Prior to joining the Columbia Law School faculty, Professor Mann held endowed chairs at the University of Michigan Law School and most recently at the University of Texas School of Law. He also taught at Washington University in St. Louis, was the Bruce W. Nichols Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, and was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies at the Bank of Japan.
